When I started my first business four years ago, it required action on my part. My business partner and I decided to put into action something we had talked about doing for almost two years. Can you believe it took us two years? Imagine if we have started a month after the idea was birthed?

The problem for so many of us is that we are “action adverse.” That is my phrase, by the way. It is easier not to take action or do anything. It is much harder to take one step forward. People get great business ideas everyday. Do the businesses thrive and succeed? No. Most of them never even get incorporated.

The idea comes and goes. No action is taken. Why is that?

What I have learned is that fear is the biggest enemy to action. People get a great idea and then talk themselves out of doing anything with it.

“I don’t have the money to start the business.”

“I know this, but not this.”

“Someone else is probably already doing the same thing.”

“I don’t know how to start.”

“This will never work.”

Ever hear those things in your head? I have. Many times.

I loved the quote I found yesterday from an anonymous author:

“Everyday brings endless opportunities to succeed, so why should I fear?”

Isn’t this true?

There are more opportunities out there everyday that we could go after, yet we succumb to the four letter word that kills more success than any other word I know.

FEAR

What are we afraid of? You have probably heard that it took Walt Disney 29 times to sell his idea for Disneyland. Did you know that Colonel Sanders, the chicken guy in his 70s, went all around the country visiting over 600 restaurants? He was trying to sell his chicken recipe.

That is action. Everyday, these men took action.

Tomorrow I will talk about how I am learning to take action and hard-wire it into my day.
