Time To Be MyselfThursday, November 03, 2005 Ever sit in a meeting and get the desire to do something totally off the wall? Well, I do and often.In meetings, everyone is sporting their meeting persona. You know what I mean? The "I am really important" persona. "Do you know who I am and how I could crush your career?" persona.. They come in all flavors, most of which I find repulsive. Here is a novel idea. What if we decided to be ourselves and scare everyone in the 100 degree room with no windows? I mean really let it all hang out. I have been in the corporate rat race too long to wear a mask in a meeting. I am who I am - but in a professional way. At home, I am not professional. I am weird, sometimes really weird. I have kids, so you have to be weird as a Dad, right? They love my weirdness and I embrace it. My youngest son has inspired me to do something really weird in a meeting. I am going to stick my tongue out at the first person who tries to play with my mind. The Blogging Boss would be the source of endless conversation. What is wrong with Eric? Does he have family problems? Has he gone mental? (yeah kinda there already) I'm gonna stick my tongue out, just like Spencer in the picture. At least in my mind... posted at 11/03/2005 10:42:00 AM |

Enjoyed your post. I don't know about sticking out your tongue at a meeting. I think it would be more dignified to take off your shoe and bang it on the table.
Good for you, and Spencer. Some times children are more mature than adults. Who says we always need to be prim and proper?
Read this if you haven't before. It is from a woman's point of view, but I think it still applies to anyone. I know I try to keep it in mind. Especially when in meetings.

Gotta love kids, eh? I think if you did that at a meeting one of two things would happen: either you'll get those "are you OK, there buddy?" looks, or everyone will put down their masks and there's no telling what will happen next in that room!

I don't know...any meeting I've ever been in, everyone looked bored or like they were going to fall asleep! Hmm, or maybe that was just me.

I did that, once. Of course, the next week I quit the job. But boy did it feel good to do that.

There is nothing better that be yourself with the kids. Just be it, they love it.
