Friday, November 18, 2005Friday Tidbits1. Last night at the supper table, in the middle of eating tomato soup in tribute to Eric's recently extracted wisdom tooth, Spencer announced, "SOUP rhymes with POOP!" Ah, the joys of homeschooling. 2. Toads shed their skin on a regular basis, and when they're finished they eat it. I know this because my children currently own five of the little critters, and I have been exposed to everything from violent worm consumption to projectile toad poop. And yesterday afternoon, I found a toad (Otis, in case you were wondering) sitting on the children's sink. He was just finishing up a round of shedding-and-snarfing his skin. Needless to say, it was a delightful discovery. 3. Yesterday, Eph2810 informed me that I had been "tagged" on her main blog. Being an inveterate blogging community moron, I had no idea what she was talking about, so I skipped over there to take a peek. Very nice to be included! Since I'm too much of a rebel to simply keep the ball rolling, I thought I'd take a moment instead to showcase this lovely, gentle-spirited lady on my blog -- my way of saying "thanks for all your support and kindness." Eph2810 has got three blogs (I don't know how she does it): Eph2810 is her main blog, where you will find thoughtful and wise posts on a variety of things. My Lighter Side is just that -- a lighter, more amusing look at life. Pop on over to read about Gnome Pajamas and Eph2810's thoughts on the new Willy Wonka movie. My Photo Blog, which I've already got listed on my main blog page, is a collection of beautiful photographs (and I'm a photo snob, so they must be good!). Eph2810 -- I've enjoyed getting to "know" you in the blogosphere. You've been a source of encouragement to me, and you probably didn't even know it! Thanks for "tagging" me, and for sharing so many beautiful insights through your words and photographs. 4. Attention writers: A super-creative writing contest is in the works. Make a note of it, spread the word, sharpen your pencils! More next week. Have a super weekend! |

24of my readers are feeling chatty:
Yikes Jill....You just made me tear up (I am serious too...) - yeah, I am just glad that I 'blogmarked' you in September when I read your post about "Tomato Sex?" - I was laying on the floor when I read that one...
BTW, I figured out the other day why in the world I spend so much on groceries each month - you can find me at Henry's (AZ's name for Wild Oats) every other day...just love their 'natural' meets...:)
Hey, my wife and I homeschool and we like Iris, too! :) Come visit us! :)

Those are some very interesting tidbits. I had no idea about the toads. You also have some nice words about Eph, which is great. Good job.
awwww what a very fitting tribute to a very wonderful person! I love Iris too!
A CONTEST WEE-HOO!!!
I have bottomed out on NaNoWriMo. I tried at lunch but with mush-brain results.
I am interested in what your contest is.
Hey!
Just saw you in the last 50 list in Battle of the Blogs. ITS ABOUT TIME!
LOL
Iris -- You found me via TOMATO SEX?? LOL Now that's just too funny!
If I had my druthers (whatever druthers might be), I would shop at Wild Oats ALL THE TIME! We do buy our (organic) cereal there because it's actually cheaper. The meat looks SO beautiful, but I can't touch it! We do sometimes buy the chicken sausages and grill them....they are delicious!
Hi, Ben -- I think I will stop by!
Dave, I've been meaning to ask you about NaNoWriMo -- you'd gone all quiet. I honestly don't know how folks do it -- I know I couldn't!
My lil' contest is....a lil' contest! *grin* With a lil' prize. And it will be judged impartially, by someone other than me. 'Cuz how could I ever choose between all of my beloved blogger friends? ;)
Eric is always bugging me to Battle. The other day he actually entered me into a Battle on his own! He's lucky I won that one.
I did vote for you today, of course.
I always vote for Jill, Eric, Dave, and Iris when I see you guys oh BofB. Yep you guessed my secret life. I'm a brown noser!

She brown-noses so much, she had to say it twice! LOL
Thanks Doris :P
That was supposed to be a :), HOW DO YOU TYPO AN EMOTICON! Sheesh!
Yep I just had to make sure you read !
LOL got to love glitches LOL
Wonderful site you have here! I'll be back for more.
My best to Eric and his tooth. Or lack of.
I'm off to go check out the "Eph" blogs!
Ken
Jill:
I am chomping at the but for this contest! It's a writing one I am assuming? Hope so, I don't tap-dance well.
Thanks for the votes, you get mine as well.
Umm Dave you did a type of again, at least i hope it was a typo, you are chomping at the but ???
Charles -- thank you!
Chench -- Can you believe he actually BROUGHT THE TOOTH HOME? I refuse to look at it. The mere thought makes me nauseous. :P
Chomping at the but, huh, Dave? That's a new one! :oD
I will be announcing the contest ASAP -- just want to make sure I'm completely organized first.
Wait a minute...I'm never completely organized....
Wow, you commented on my Rainbow Connection post just seconds after I published it. Are you stalking me or something?
I've been told that I do a pretty good Kermit impression.
LOL
Scared ya, did I? :D
Do you REALLY want people to know that you do a pretty good Kermit impression?
I've been told that my Julia Child is pretty accurate. But she never recorded an album...
At least I didn't say "BUTT"!
It made a great visual though didn't it?
Hey, I can do a pretty mean Julia Child myself LOL
The Bear has Elmo, Winnie the Pooh, and Tigger as well as a few noname "friends". They put on a show for him at bedtime.
My Elmo is spot on, and Pooh Bear is pretty good. Tigger suits the floor show, but I'll never be a Disney understudy.
The Bear likes me to read him books in Pooh Bears voice. Actually, he says Make Pooh Bear talk or can Pooh read it?
The funny thing is, when I make Pooh Bear talk, he will carry on conversations with the stuffed Pooh Bear. It is hilarious.
Elmo loves tarantulas!
Wow. We're truly a scary bunch.
Jillian,
Thanks for the visit! :)
I'm somewhat interested, as a writer of more adult (in the sense of "grown up") themes and roleplaying fodder, in learning more about how to write fiction for a younger audience. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your contest... :)
Another blogger that I know that I'm certain would also enjoy knowing about it is here:
http://www.dorannes.com
I'll tell Stacy about it and point here here. :)
Hey Ben, if you happen back this way ... thanks for sending me the link here. I kinda like this place. :) Now, if I could just convince Jill to let me stay ...
Um, yeah, cool beans.
Seems like a friendly place you have here, Jill.
I'm not too keen on the but chomping, though.
Okay, for some strange reason I'm picturing Pac-Man right now. What's up with that?
Yikes! I'm going to just back away nice and quiet like ... I've uh, er ... got a Dr. Seuss-esque poem to finish. Yeah, yeah ... that's it. Heh.
Toodles,
~ Stacy ~
Thanks, Ben -- and thanks also for sending Stacy this way.
Stacy, you're already showing signs of the WONDERFUL ODDITY that most of the "regulars" around here display on an almost daily basis. Methinks you'll fit right in, so I won't need much convincing!
Just give me a holler if Dave gets too scary for ya. :)
